Pipeline Control Room Operator
Onsite – Downtown Houston
Contract/Contract to Hire Position, 6-8 months
Pay rate $35-45 hour depending on experience
Schedule: 12-hour rotating shifts (days/nights)

Overview:
The Pipeline Control Room Operator II is responsible for safely monitoring, controlling, and coordinating the transportation of crude oil and natural gas through pipeline systems using SCADA and related control technologies. This role supports daily operations, responds to abnormal conditions, and ensures all activities are conducted in compliance with regulatory and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, control, and re-route oil and gas flows using SCADA systems and remote terminal units (RTUs)
  • Execute operational procedures including system start-ups, shutdowns, and flow adjustments
  • Acknowledge, respond to, and take corrective action on system alarms and abnormal operating conditions
  • Monitor pressures, flow rates, and volumes to maintain safe and efficient pipeline operations
  • Perform remote valve adjustments and coordinate compression operations as needed
  • Communicate and coordinate with field personnel, third-party operators, and other control centers to support daily operations and scheduled activities
  • Maintain accurate control room logs, including flow changes, alarms, volumes, and operational events
  • Support field operations when required, including coordination of manual valve changes and maintenance activities
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, including 49 CFR Part 192 , and Control Room Management (CRM) requirements
  • Assist with incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis
  • Maintain a high level of situational awareness while monitoring multiple systems in a fast-paced control room environment

Qualifications:

  • 4–7 years of pipeline control room experience or closely related oil & gas operations experience
  • Strong working knowledge of SCADA systems and pipeline operations
  • Experience monitoring and controlling natural gas and/or crude oil pipelines , including flows, pressures, and alarms
  • Familiarity with compression operations, gas scheduling, and pipeline systems
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations (49 CFR Part 192) and Control Room Management standards
  • Ability to make quick, independent decisions in high-pressure situations
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Ability to work a 12-hour rotating schedule (days/nights)
  • Comfortable working independently while maintaining high attention to detail

  • Candidates must be comfortable monitoring multiple systems and reacting quickly to changing conditions
  • On-call availability may be required for operational support or emergencies
